I've Been Working on the Railroad

There's a nice little path down by the railroad track that we've been running on this week. Sadie, as you can see from the photo, is very excited to be back on a running routine.

My knee is feeling decent. Eighteen pain-free miles this week. It still feels weak, but with each run it's feeling better and I'm feeling more confident. Sadie is acting like she's okay with these three and four mile runs by the railroad track, but I can tell she'd much rather be on the trails. I'm hoping by April that the trails on Moscow Mt. will be melted enough to run.

The Spokane River 50 km trail run is in late April and I'd like to be ready for it, but I realize that it might be a stretch to expect that I'll be completely ready by then. My main goal for this season is to be injury-free for the Iceland ultra and White River 50 in July. Any race I can do before then will be a nice bonus.

I'm excited to be running again. This might be another fun year.

Keep running!

Scott

  1. Anything outdoors is better than the treadmill, right? ;-)

  9. It's much more important to be healthy and injury free. It's also good to focus on your big goals and leave the rest as a bonus. You're a smart man!

  10. I am a tennis fanatic with "runner's knee". I find your posts inspiring, but I also think you're pushing yourself too hard!! I have been doing stationary bike/ swim cross-training to get some muscle mass in my quads. Plus stretching and tons of time off. The thing that has helped me the most, stragely enough, was spending two hours in a hot-spring soak in Idaho Springs, Colorado. I think many of our joint/muscle problems have to do with our food being grown in played-out soil. Modern man is literally nutrient deprived. Please, find a mineral hot spring (certainly Iceland will have them) and take some mineral supplements, vitamins, especially C and D. I find magnessium supplements and soaks (in the bathtub) have really helped a lot. Sorry for the rambling....

  11. Injury free must always be the main goal. I often thought to run along the train tracks but I never found a mate to run with.
